Magic and Metal April 21, 2009

I’m running around trying to get a lot of things done this evening–and no, it’s not because of Magic City Art Connection. I won’t have a booth there–but there are about 215 superb artists from across the country who will be there, and you should definitely go see them this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I love that festival, and it’s now perhaps the city’s biggest art event, with an opportunity to sample the city’s best food, performances, the Imagination Festival for kids, a wonderful atmosphere, a great setting in Linn Park downtown, and usually nice weather to enjoy it all. And it’s free, too (well, except for the food part)!

Also, this Friday, April 24, Space One Eleven (downtown on 2nd Ave. N.) is hosting a double exhibit–wide-angle photographs juxtaposing Alabama and India by Brad Daly and ingenious cast-iron and steel sculptures created by Sloss Furnaces resident metal artists and visiting artists. That is sure to be a good show–and a good look at some unique Birmingham art.
