Open Season November 19, 2008

The holidays are–wow, next week! So go ahead and get into the festive spirit this Friday with two fun art openings:

“Kitschmas” opens at Naked Art, and as I’ve said before, you have to see the collection of ornaments that the artists have created this year. They’re endlessly imaginative, especially when you consider that pretty much all of them are recycled from something else. And even better, they’re affordable! The gallery is full of other great gifts as well, and while you’re looking around, check out my new set of scratch pads and the all-new “2nd Avenue Sightline” print. (To get the photo that inspired that print, I had to stand in the middle of 2nd Avenue North!). Naked Art’s site has all the details on the opening and the Forest Park open house taking place at the same time.

Meanwhile, beginning at 5:00 p.m., What’s on Second–another great place for unique, unusual gifts–is hosting an art show by Shane B, a tattoo artist, graffiti/mural maker, and painter. I’ve seen some examples of his work, and it’s detailed, delicate, skilled, colorful, and often humorous art. Be sure to stop by for this show–I think you’ll enjoy seeing a style of art you probably aren’t going to find in any gallery around Birmingham.
