Art and Other Activities November 3, 2008

Posted by cbuchanan in Uncategorized.

While everyone else was preparing for Halloween, I was two holidays ahead, creating holiday pieces for Naked Art. This year I have made all-new block-printed ornaments–from beer coasters! They’ll probably make an appearance in the gallery in the next week or so, and if you stop by, be sure to check out all the ornaments on display–the artists really outdid themselves this year, creating some fun (and affordable) wonders out of recycled materials ranging from sweaters to metal to cereal boxes! And you have to see Carolyn Wass’s ceramic animal ornaments.

By the time the “Kitschmas” opening rolls around on November 21, I’ll have a few more holiday goodies at Naked Art, including a new stash of Birmingham-themed card sets and the popular scratch pads that I make from scrap paper and messed-up prints. I’ve also got a couple of all-new prints that may go up on the walls during the holiday season.

Before then, we have another full weekend on the horizon. Dobbs Gallery and Space One Eleven both have art openings this Friday night, and on Sunday, Red Mountain Park hosts its first fall colors walking tour. I really enjoyed exploring the park during one of the preview tours this summer, and I’m eager to see how it looks in another season. You’ll be able to walk either a 2.5-mile trail or a 3.4-mile loop, and along the way you’ll see and learn about an old mine on the property. Plus you’ll have the chance to meet Dave Dionne, the new executive director of Red Mountain Park. For directions and to R.S.V.P., e-mail info@redmountainpark.org.
