I hope everyone is taking the opportunity to enjoy the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival this weekend–especially since it’s the 10th year of that extremely cool Birmingham event. (I remember going the first year, when there were so many people in one venue–which I think is now the Speakeasy–that I had to sit on the floor.) Sidewalk is proof that Birmingham can provide a fertile ground for combinations of creative people and creative ideas, and I’m extremely proud that the national film community has taken notice of Sidewalk–and that Sidewalk has fostered the growth of our local film community.

There’s another Birmingham creative institution garnering national attention (it was most recently name-dropped in USA Today) that’s about to celebrate its first decade as well, and I invite you to join the party on Friday, Oct. 3. Naked Art Gallery turns 10 with the opening of its “Memento Mori” show, featuring local artists Jen.X and Ray Kersh, perfectly timed for the Halloween season. Plus all of Forest Park will be getting in on the act with a fun fall festival. Stay tuned to the Naked Art site next week for all the details, and be sure to stop by and say happy birthday!
