Artwalk Week Is Here August 31, 2008

Happy Labor Day! And I am indeed laboring, trying to finish everything I need to finish before Artwalk, which is this Friday evening and Saturday afternoon!

The Aug. 21 issue of Black & White, which should still be available, has an Artwalk guide beginning on page 27, complete with a list of artists, a site map, and helpful information. (You can also find a lot of that online at Artwalk’s Web site.)

There are a lot of great–and new–artists in the festival this year, and you’ll find them all on Morris, 1st, and 2nd avenues north between 22nd and 25th streets. I’ll be in my familiar spot at 2314-A 1st Ave. N.

And what will I have in my little space? A *ton* of matted prints. I seriously don’t know how many I’ve made until I do an inventory, but the stack of them is up to my knees! Look for all the favorites, plus several new ones, and this year I’ll also have a limited number of one-of-a-kind multi-print pieces on wood. Everything will be affordable, and be sure to stop by early for the best selection.

If you come to Artwalk on Friday night, don’t miss some literary art with the Mixtape reading from the 2ndhand, appropriately located next to What’s on 2nd? on 2nd Ave. N. (For more info, see the 2ndhand site.) And if you’re there on Saturday with kids, let them try some printmaking of their own at the Kidzone behind Space One Eleven on 24th St.

What else? Oh yes–be sure to take a look at how many new businesses and developments are popping up in and around the Artwalk district. If you haven’t yet visited one of the new shops, restaurants, or bars, this is your chance to do it–and help support the revitalization of downtown Birmingham.
