Here are some intriguing artistic attractions headed your way:

April 4 and 5 (this Friday and Saturday)–“Yard Art” opens at Naked Art

Celebrate spring with one of the most fun, popular, and creative shows of the year. Some of the furniture pieces this time are really stunning. I’ve also got some new prints at the gallery–they’re not in the Yard Art show, but tucked in the back room with the bar. Check them out!

April 25-27–Magic City Art Connection in Linn Park downtown

It’s big, and you’re guaranteed to see lots of cool stuff. ‘Nuff said!

Sometime this spring–“Charlie Lucas: The World Through My Eyes” at the Birmingham Museum of Art Sculpture Garden

I’m very excited about this! Lucas does magical things with scrap metal and cast-offs–if you saw the amazing horse sculpture at last year’s Alabama Folk Art exhibit, you know what I’m talking about. Up to 20 of his full-of-personality sculptures will take up temporary residence in the garden.

Now through May 25–“Kathryn Tucker Windham: My Land, My People” at the Birmingham Museum of Art

Windham is known as a storyteller, and her beautiful black-and-white photos also tell stories–about people and customs in rural Alabama. My favorite shows a house which has a driveway lined with old toy rocking horses–all painted white, as if they were marble statues lining a grand entranceway. (To me it captures the Alabama dichotomy of grace and rawness.)

Art on the Rocks also returns to the museum this year–mark your calendar for May 16, June 20, July 18, and August 15.
