I’m way behind on blogging, but I have a good excuse. I’ve been carving new blocks. You’ll see the first of the new ones soon, but until then, here are some things you should definitely check out:

This Friday and Saturday, March 2-3, Naked Art is opening “Femme Fatale” to celebrate Women’s History Month. The star attractions will be funky paintings by Atlanta artist Michelle Prahler and the unforgettable lingerie lamps by Nashville’s Kelly Butler.

On Sunday, March 4, don’t miss the inaugural Birmingham reading presented by The 2ndhand, a broadsheet featuring new fiction that’s now headquartered here (well, partly; founder Todd Dills moved here from Chicago last year; half of it is still produced out of Chicago). The reading starts at Speakeasy (1920 3rd Ave. N.) at 7:30 and features Dills along with writers from Brooklyn and Chicago. Plus local comics zinester Delaine Derry Green and her husband, Lee, will bring to life scenes from Delaine’s comics.

And I just found this online and had to share–details about the life and death of the famous “Birmingham the Magic City” sign that used to stand in front of Terminal Station. This is the first time I’ve heard anything about its history. It’s interesting to read that even in the ’50s, only 25 years after it was built, it was seen as a city icon. And whoever wrote the line at the top left gets some headline-writing kudos from me. :)
