What’s Up July 5, 2007

Have you heard of What’s on 2nd? No, that’s not the beginning of a joke. There’s actually a new shop in downtown B’ham named What’s on 2nd. I found out about it today–and it is apparently having its grand opening this weekend. It sounds interesting, too–from what I Googled, it has antiques, art, thousands of postcards (my eyes just lit up!), and for the opening, vintage T-shirts for show and sale. Tomorrow night (Friday the 6th), it will be having a gallery-style opening from 5:00 to 8:00 at its location at 2306 2nd Ave. N. I may have to check that out!
If you do go downtown one of these nights, be sure to check out the City Federal building and the wonderful new addition to its lighting scheme. Those uplights on the upper third of the building really add some style to the skyline–I’ve always liked how some other cities really light up their older skyscrapers (like the Wrigley Building in Chicago)–and they definitely make the building stand out. Kudos to whoever came up with that idea!
