Time for Kentuck October 17, 2006

This Saturday I’m going to the Kentuck Festival of the Arts, and I hope you are too. It’s down in Northport, and it costs $10 for a one-day ticket, but it’s so worth it (and this is coming from someone who typically can’t fathom the idea of paying to get into an art festival). Over the years Kentuck has evolved from a folk-art focus to a more contemporary vibe; it actually mixes the two quite well, and it attracts artists from around the country.
I’m particularly excited because this year Standard Deluxe will have a booth there (and they’ve apparently done the festival posters and T-shirts), plus Yee Haw Industries is returning, *plus* Alabama’s own letterpress master Amos Paul Kennedy Jr. will be there. If only Hatch Show Print were there, you’d have pretty much all my current artistic inspirations in one spot! My wallet is already planning stops at the Standard Deluxe and Yee Haw booths. Meanwhile, my head will probably pop from all the cool graphic design and letterpress wonderfulness.
Be sure to stop by and say hi to Katy DeMent and Jeanne Flint, two exhibiting artists who also show at Naked Art. I get to see these fun people only three times a year at various festivals. Katy makes paper out of interesting stuff, then makes interesting stuff out of the paper. Jeanne makes ingenious jewelry.
Hopefully I’ll see you there–or at Art on the Rocks on Friday night!

[...] If you’re not home listening to the Troy game this weekend you could head over to the Kentuck Art Festival. It’s supposed to be big this year and Pop Goes the City has highlighted some of the cool print artists that will be there. [...]
